So we’ve finallly managed to get this little idea of ours rolling along for almost a week, and the response has been totally surreal and amazing. Jed and I are just super excited at all of the support and interest from both the restaurant community and our friends (or–if we don’t know you–soon-to-be friends).

Instead of the stress increasing, this process just gets more fun as we continue to add the best restaurants (we think!) in the city, and we find so many kindred spirits who want to support locally-owned restaurants and help the families who need it most in our community.

This is really what it’s all about and why we started this. We’re thrilled. We’re overwhelmed. We’re excited. and We heart Columbus for helping us realize our vision.

So of course, I agonized over naming the site. I wanted to reference something positive and food related, but watermelon.com was taken, and so was chocolate.com. So, what’s a girl to do?

I pondered on it. Ate my way through Columbus. Went for a run. Came up with Fudha for the site name. But then…there’s the issue of the tagline. For anyone who knows me, they know I love food, and I love language and accents (especially Southern). I really wanted to make the tagline “Good Eatin’ “, but just wasn’t sure that everyone would get it…I didn’t want people to be wondering what our website has to do with Paula Deen.

After really thinking, I decided that “good” works, because we’re trying support our friends who own restaurants and help out families who need it. And “eating” is totally related to basically everything we’re trying to do for our customers, the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, and it’s a huge passion of mine.

So that’s what it means, and how I got there.

We’ve gotten a ton of great feedback from our friends, neighbors, and amazing restaurateurs.  Our members are growing exponentially, and we haven’t even launched yet!

All I can say is that we’re super excited to really get this concept off the ground here in Columbus.  We have so many great restaurants signed up, a great partner in the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, and are now just working on getting the community behind us in big numbers.

Fudha features a daily deal on the best locally-owned restaurants in Columbus. We’re in beta mode right now, and making sure everything goes the way it’s supposed to. Once we’re totally sure that the site won’t break, we’ll be improving some of our features, and then expanding to other cities.

We offer one deal a day.  Members have until time runs out or we run out of coupons (whichever comes first), and then we offer a new deal the next day.  For every coupon sold, we donate $1 to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank. (Don’t worry, you don’t have to use the deal that day, you’ll have a couple of months to redeem it!)

We offer deals to restaurants we love. It’s one thing to get a good deal. It’s another to get a great value at a place you love to eat.  We want you to try new places, love them, and go back!

Feel good. Not only do we want our customers to feel great about eating and the deals they get, we want to give to families who need it most.  You also get to feel good about supporting locally owned restaurants.

It’s easy to go to your regular restaurant, or cook at home, but we hope you use Fudha to get a taste of the awesome restaurants in Columbus and support the Mid-Ohio Foodbank!
